I had non-cancerous surgery on August 13th. This will be a rough review, but I want to make clear from the start that Dr. Beamer is a Five Star doctor, no question. I went to him after a nightmare experience elsewhere, and he spent a good 35 minutes with me going through my options, answering every question, calmly professionally. I am non-medical, but my surgery really feels like it went well. The dropped star (and I think I have been generous here) is for his Care Team which was distinctly sub-par. To be fair to them, I do not know if the complete inadequacy of the supplies IN the hospital redounds to them or not. I was given flimsy mesh underwear while my gut area, on the three occasions I had to go to the bathroom, poured blood and urine on to the floor. I was absolutely panicked, especially as the guy in the next bed, had just cheated death by one day. I got on my hands and knees three times, the night of my surgery, and did three preliminary clean ups before the two nurses, who were TOTALLY excellent, came in and sanitized everything each time. I spoke to Dr. Beamer about this issue, and I mentioned that if he had the clout to insist that there are Depends, or something similar, for patients to wear during the hospital stay, he should exercise it. Whoever is responsible, why on earth would it be a good idea to have patients unable to keep some sort of body integrity after prostate surgery? So that was likely not the Care Team's responsibility. However, I was not called at any point after I got home from the hospital to check on how I was doing after the surgery. Again, there was no mention whatsoever of the type of supplies I might need at home, even on the flimsy discharge summary. On Day 1, the same blood and urine gushed out of me onto the living room floor, uncontrollably. Yes, I worked it out in the end, as evidenced by huge garbage bags of Depends every week making their way to the garbage. But I was on my own. On August 26th I sent a message in My Chart making it clear that I wanted a call back. I didn’t want an impersonal email, I was suffering a bit, and wanted to speak to someone. Nothing. Forget that 3 day thing. Nothing for a week, until I decided myself to speak to the polite and professional Nurse S. Did they want me to beg before that? In all honesty, the only Care Team I had during this whole time was the AI Care Team on my phone, as I calibrated what was happening to me, and what should be. Al this Care Team needs to do, in my opinion, is have a comprehensive folder with what to expect and when, what supplies might be needed, etc and this could easily be assembled. I have been tough in this review not to gripe but to make it clear that this totally dedicated and superb doctor is being compromised by his own Care Team. There was an exception, a Medical Assistant M got back to me the next morning with information I needed about PT, and I thank her for that. Proof is needed about how to really care about a patient? What was Dr. Beamer doing at 8.33pm, after presumably a full day of surgery on 8/20? Writing my permission letter to delay my return to work. It took him, the frigging surgeon, just 5 hours and 19 minutes, and probably much less time than he actually COULD attend to this type of matter, on a surgery day, to reply to me. That is the standard of care and excellence that his team should be aspiring to emulate. If and when they do, this will be a spectacularly good medical service. Thank you Jonathan S

Dr Beamer is simply fantastic. I went for what I thought a typical ER visit and the doctor reviewed many of the results and in a quick summary saved me from a big health mess. He is truly and great scientist but more importantly a fantastic individual. I couldn't say enough great things about him.

Dr Beamer is the most caring , kind doctor , he is so patient . I came home from a trip feeling awful. I went to a different hospital closest to where I lived. They sent me home. I then called Dr Beamer I knew something was not right. They told me to go to St Vincent. I had sepsis. He literally saved my life. I will recommend him to everybody .
